Krishna is the beloved of Radha and performs many enchanting pastimes in the groves of Vrindavana. He is the lover of the cowherd maidens of Vraja and the mighty lifter of Govardhana Hill. He is the cherished son of Mother Yasoda, the joy of the Vraja inhabitants, and roams freely through the forests along the banks of the Yamuna River.
Srila Prabhupada had a deep affection for this song and would sing it before delivering his lectures. On occasions in Allahabad and Gorakhpur, Srila Prabhupada entered a trance after singing just the first two lines. After some time, he returned to external consciousness and said, »Now just chant Hare Krishna.« He described this song as »a picture of Vrindavana,« saying, »Everything is there — Srimati Radharani, Vrindavana, Govardhana, Yasoda, and all the cowherd boys.«
